Chilling out in café is the “IN” Thing or the TREND now in Singapore.
A piece of cake and a coffee to last the afternoon , with a book or some catching up with friends seem the thing to do. And what do I usually order? A red velvet cake and a coffee/ tea.
Before I go on further, let us understand what is a red velvet cake and at least, we know what we are eating and why I love to choose red velvet cake.
A Red velvet cake is a cake with either a dark red, bright red or red-brown color. It is traditionally prepared as a layer cake topped with cream cheese or cooked roux icing. The reddish color is often enhanced by adding beetroot or red food coloring.
One benefit of beetroot is to lower blood pressure and fight heart disease. And drinking beetroot increases blood flow . Beetroot contains high concentrations of nitrates. Nitrites help open blood vessels in the body, increasing blood flow and oxygen to places lacking in oxygen. One common juice I had is ABC at the fruit juice store that contains Beetroot. That’s why Red Velvet cake is my choice of cake for good health benefit and reason 🙂
Which café is good for Red velvet cake, comparing The Fabulous Baker Boy and The Bakery Chef?
Let me start with The Bakery Chef.

And I tried the Red Velvet cake with Long black
The Red Velvet cake is pretty unique with a layer of red velvet and a layer of cheesecake. The price range is good. bout $5.80 for a piece of cake, decent size
There is a layered of cheesecake with the velvet cake. The cream cheese was excellent and the cake doesn’t taste too sweet. overall the cheesecake and cream cheese compliments the red velvet cake! However, cheesecake usually make me feel very full , so really depends on your craving that moment.
The cake is very moist and they chill the cake in a way it makes the cheese cooling and melts in the mouth. overall I like the cakes and I will return again for the cakes!
And for sleepy lazy sunday, I will choose long black as it will compliment the sweetness of the cake 🙂 I love the cute number biscuit. This is indeed one quiet café that you can hardly expect big crowd. small café concept. quiet if you go on a sunday after. if you didn’t quite like the very small and cramp concept and prefer big café, you might not like this one. if you are just out alone with a book and just your own ME Time, it is a good place 🙂
The rainbow cake is limited pieces. at bout 3pm almost all sold out.
And I got this home for my mum for teabreak. she love it very much , I guess coz it is not too sweet and a little fruity. Also, the colors really make it so tasty that it is pretty hard to resist, this is also one of the popular cakes in the café. Take a pick 🙂 I also noticed people packing this home as well. Yes, this rainbow cake is $5.80 as well.

This is one special chocolatey red velvet unlike most red velvet I tried! if u do not like chocolate, probably u don’t like it at all. the serving is pretty big and It costs $9 for this cake. it is really a big piece so it is good on a sharing portion unless you are a cake lover then probably one is enough.
The taste for this red velvet cake from The fabulous baker boy is better for my taste bud. I like the stronger beetroot taste. I like the chocolate as well if I have chocolate cravings. The cake is really moist.
The café have a nice ambience as well, also pretty quiet on a weekday .
So, what is my vote on which café offer the better red velvet cake in my point of view? Ok! I will crown it to Fabulous Baker boy! coz I really like the beetroot taste of the red velvet cake. and I felt it is more healthy as it does not include cheese. And if u prefer chocolate more than cheese just like me, then this is the pick!
And oh gosh, I am craving for the chocolatey red velvet now. hahaha 🙂 Bring me there! 🙂
