The Four ‘C’s in choosing the perfect engagement ring
In order to buy the perfect engagement ring you need to be aware of what makes a quality diamond. A real diamond will boast GIA certification and this grades a diamond based on the following qualities; cut, clarity, colour and carat.
Cut – This relates to the diamond’s proportions. If the diamond is cut too shallow or too deep then the light will spill out and you will lose that beautiful glistening quality.
Clarity – All diamonds have blemishes. After all, they have gone through a heavy process to become the beautiful adornment we see on jewellery today. Nevertheless, you want to make sure that the diamond is not included to the extent whereby it is visible to the human eye.
Colour – Diamonds are graded on a scale of D to Z based on how colourless they are. D represents colourless and the diamond gets yellower as the letter increases. Most people tend to opt for anything labelled ‘H’ or above.
Carat – This is the easiest of the four ‘C’s and simply translates to the diamond’s weight. The heavier the diamond – the more desirable, yet the more expensive.
Talk to your girlfriend’s friends and family
As well as soaking up as much knowledge as possible about engagement rings themselves, you also need to know as much as possible about your girlfriend’s taste in jewellery. Talk to her closet friends, her mum and her sister. If you are lucky they may even agree to go shopping with you.
Examine her jewellery box
Take a look inside your girlfriend’s jewellery box in order to get an idea of her style. When it comes to buying an engagement ring it is recommended that you opt for the colour metal she wears the most of. Thus, if most of her jewellery is silver, then buy a silver engagement band. Why? You know that she likes it, and it is likely to match better with the rest of her current jewellery.
Moreover, it is recommended that you take one of your girlfriend’s rings with you so that you can be sure to get the right size.
Bridal jewellery 2013 trends
And finally, you need to be up to date with the latest trends in bridal jewellery for 2013. Here’s a selection of some of the ring styles you should consider…
Halo – A halo engagement ring is one which boasts a big diamond and is then surrounded by smaller diamonds. This is highly popular at present because it possesses that vintage style which is very much fashionable in the modern day.
Pear – A pear diamond is something which is very feminine, dainty and elegant. Another great thing about this shape of diamond is that it is suited to a lighter carat and thinner bands as well.
Coloured gem stones – The last trend worth considering is opting for coloured gem stones rather than a clear diamond. Sapphire is something which has become exceedingly popular since Kate Middleton started wearing a sapphire engagement ring on her finger.
